About Our Services
Stoken Ophthalmology offers a complete array of vision services for our patients including:
Comprehensive Eye Exams:
Regular eye exams are vital not only to maintain clear vision, but also to preserve the health of your eyes. During a comprehensive exam, the doctor can detect and inform you about eye disorders such as cataracts and glaucoma, as well as general health conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.
We utilize state-of-the-art equipment, in order to enhance our examination, so that we always provide the most thorough and up-to-date care possible.
No-Stitch Cataract Surgery
with Lens Implants:
If the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy due to a cataract, it is typically removed and replaced with an artificial lens (intraocular lens or IOL). This type of procedure is called cataract surgery. It is performed with topical anesthetic (numbing eye drops) in an outpatient setting and typically does not require patching or the use sutures (or stitches). This no needle, no stitch, no patch technique is the standard of care today. Every year new implant designs emerge with special features such as foldable implants and most recently bifocal implants. Dr. Stoken constantly evaluates the desirability of each type of intraocular lens implant in order to offer you the highest quality and safest device available.
Laser and Surgical Treatments for Diabetic and Glaucoma Patients:
After a complete eye exam, the doctor will develop a complete treatment plan to maximize the vision of diabetic and glaucoma patients, including any necessary surgeries or laser procedures.
All Laser LASIK:
All Laser LASIK uses the Intralase laser to replace the blade traditionally used for the first step of LASIK, and the Allegretto Wave Excimer Laser for the refractive treatment. This new procedure virtually eliminates all complications caused by blades during laser surgery.
Contact Lens Fitting
and Dispensing:
At Stoken Ophthalmology, patients can be fitted for contact lenses that correct for nearsightedness, far sightedness, and astigmatism. We can also recommend new options in soft and rigid lenses for presbyopia (the need for reading correction). Contact lenses for medical conditions such as keratoconus and aphakia (post cataract surgery) can also be prescribed.
Low Vision Care
We can help patients with vision loss ranging from mild visual impairment to legal blindness. Common conditions that may result in the need for low vision care include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. We work with these patients to determine what magnification options work best for them (high plus glasses, telescopes, handheld or stand magnifiers)
In-House Optical Shop
Our Board Certified opticians are trained to help patients choose the best frames for them. We carry frames to fit any budget including many designer frames in the latest styles. We also repair frames while you wait and have our own finishing lab ensuring the quality of your glasses meets the highest standard.
State-Of-The-Art On-Site
Surgery Center
As an added convenience, patients have the option of having most procedures performed at our own surgical facility. The Ophthalmology and Surgical Institute of Central PA, or OSI for short, is located at the rear of the practice.
